Content

My new friend Anita (http://averagegirl.wordpress.com/) and I have been emailing back and forth about contentedness. We talked about the importance of "feeding" on contendedness. I mean that is what we do with discontent isn't it? We nourish it, feed it.. revel in it?

How can we feed contentedness? If you have a Scripture that comes to mind to share, please post it along with how you can choose to be content today.

Philipians 4.8 comnes to mind
'Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.' (ASV)
As an antidote to dwelling on the negative. When we start to count our blessings its amzing how blessed we realise we are.

This passage that really caught my eye this morning applies at least indirectly:

"Therefore since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God."

The command is to arm ourselves with the same mind that Christ had...to suffer in the flesh. By choosing to be content, often, by default, we are choosing to suffer.

By doing so, this passage promises that we will cease from sin (FREEDOM!) and will live for the will of God.

I take that to mean that we will DESIRE to live for the will of God.

The truth is that the real suffering is when we try to live a double life...for ourselves and God. When we choose to suffer, we are doing ourselves a favor by crucifying that stinky no-good flesh. He will in turn give us a heart for Him.

Then we will have true peace, contentment and joy. Doesn't sound like suffering to me! Sounds like contentment :-)

I totally agree with Elly and Brandi. We certainly do have to "count our blessings." I guess that's a cliche for a reason . . .

Oh, I got my card the other day. Thank you so much! It was such a sweet gesture and made me smile after a long, stressful day.

Hope all is well with you!
