Prepare the Soil.

Right now I am studying Matthew 13, some of the parables of Jesus. In our small group discussion last week we talked about the four different types of soil. The seed was the same, but the ground's ability to nourish the seed was different.

My friend from my group, Heather talked about preparing the soil in relationship to our children. I loved that idea. We cannot save our children, or others for that matter, but with our children we have a tremendous opportunity to prepare the soil so that it will be ready for the gospel message.

What are some specific ways we can "prepare the soil" this week in our children's hearts?

Here is my list:

1. Teach my children about God today.
2. Pray with and for my children.
3. Train them in obedience and respect.
4. Stay home.
5. Incorporate my children into everyday tasks. For the baby, give them a new vantage point by putting them somewhere new in the home and talk to them about what is going on around them.
6. Be kind.
7. Be sensible.
8. Be an encourager.
9. Pray for their salvation or spiritual growth.
10. Listen to my children today. Be able to remember something they did or said.
11. Stimulate their interests.
12. Encourage them to attempt new things.
13. Live what I believe, pray without ceasing, feed on His Word, live obediently.

What is your list?
