Well I have a confession to make. Spring cleaning is not happening the way I had envisioned it. I read the book Monica recommended on her blog.... and I thought... this is great... a day to do each thing... but as I started to flesh out the system I realized I have too much "household" for the system to encompass everything I needed to do to keep it up.
But the "Spring Clean" has given me the impetus to finally complete the system that I have been trying to work into my life for the last 3 years.
Many of you have heard of the FLY lady. Dude... don't get on the email list! I have her book and it is extremely helpful. Of course you have to do it.... and in many ways I have been.
It is based on routine. Habits that help you to get your stuff done. Cleaning is based on zones. The motto is "Never Spring Clean Again!" The difference is that you limit your cleaning to 15 minute spurts of time each day in that week's zone.
This helps you systematically work through your whole home in zones each month. So you end up cleaning everything thoroughly once a month. If you don't start with a clean house it takes a few months of doing this 15 minutes at a time to get your house spotless, but slow and steady wins the race. After everything is really clean it is just maintenance every month.
So here I am (after telling Monica that FLY lady was too complicated) back to what I started out to do. I have already seen a big difference. And I have finished the under the stairs closet!

DUDE, I love you darling. I haven't been cleaning either, same reason. Too much household gets left by the wayside and seriously neglected when I'm cleaning an entire room. I also am attempting this during my two weeks of low energy (pre cycle and week of cycle) and that just stinks like old beans. SO I will keep my list, and get to it (or not) when I can. Until then the day to day stuff gets done and the kids are fed and cuddled. Isn't that more important than a crumb free foyer!!
