Friday Question

Love to Eat, Hate to Eat.....

Continuing from last week....

2. Would you say that you are a person who both loves and hates to eat? Have you experienced the "tyranny of food"? In what ways? Why have you decided to work on your problem now?

I love to eat. I enjoy it. I think about it. I plan things around it.

I also hate to eat. I feel guilty. I feel unlovable. I feel anxious.

Food can be a ruler in my life. Shutting me out true joy. Becoming an idol, replacing the feelings that should only be reserved for God.

I have made tremendous progress in my eating, and this "working on it" is nothing new. It is a continuous process. I am glad to say that most of the time God is on the throne.

Yes, that is why I love the title of the book so much! I love to eat...too much. Hence the "tyranny of food." Since food is often involves in my sin and therefore consequences of sin, I often find myself hating it too.

To me, it is a bondage because I often, usually on a daily basis, am at least tempted to eat for reasons I shouldn't. I guess I thought that would all go away when I reached my weight-loss goal, but it hasn't. In fact, it can be a stronger temptation. Like, "You're not on a diet anymore, so you should be able to eat whatever you want."

But the truth is, it's about food being an idol...attempting to use food to meet needs that God wants to meet alone.

I have decided to work on my problem, because I WANT TO BE FREE!! I want to be wholly devoted to Him. I want to stop selling my birthright for a bowl of stew. He is truly satisfying and I forfeit His pleasure when I turn from Him and turn to food. See Jeremiah 2:13

Hi! I just found your blog (can't even remember how I got here), but we have a lot in common. I'm from Georgia, so yea to southerns! I also homeschool, but I only have 2 children. I'm also on a life long quest for permanent weight loss! And my Father had Alzheimer's. He actually just passed away on March 3rd of this year. But, I went through a lot with his Alzheimer's and would be happy to chat about it. And most importantly, I'm also a Beliver. So, I would love to chat sometime. You can stop by my blog at the attached link. Take care, Georgia Mom

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! I hope you had a wonderful day. Thanks again for reminding me last week to rest in the peace that only God can give. I was able to share your encouragement and scripture with Ben and we were both able to get our eyes off the little picture and get them back on the Big picture. I Love you. Cathy
