Others

I agree with what my friend Brandi has commented on the Friday question post this week.

How often does our heart reflect Christ in our loving and serving others?

Do we praise Him only with our lips and keystrokes? Or do we show our devotion in our loving others?

A verse that I have been meditating on the past few months is Matthew 16:24 "If anyone desires to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me."

The first step is to deny self. I think too often we jump to taking up the cross.

Also, lately I have been thinking about how being with Jesus requires going somewhere ("follow.") What did he do? He ministered to others most of the time, it seems to me.

I believe in our protestant churches we focus a lot on a personal walk with the Lord, but not enough of being His hands and feet. You know, "just me and Jesus" mindset. Don't get me wrong...we will do no good if our serving others isn't birthed from that personal relationship with the Lord. it just can't stop there.

I agree with what you are saying... like in James 2 ... "But someone will say You have faith; I have deeds and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that - and shudder..."
